Since Son Left Home (day 4)

I sobbed a lot day one and two with the horrendous internal pain that loss causes. For nineteen years (plus the nine months he spent growing within) my son and I have journeyed through this mother/son relationship and have enjoyed each other’s company 98% of the time. My son brought joy into my heart and life…

Dearest god-daughter

Dearest god-daughter In the middle of the night, instead of being home snuggled up in bed You were roaming the streets of the city. Free of rules, free of stupid adults, free to do what you want.   I know you feel old enough to make your own decisions We all did at sixteen. You…

Teaching Our Kids To Be Bullies

In the supermarket a mother chastises her child with; “If you don’t stop that I’ll knock you down.”  From the neighbour’s house came screaming voices as mum and dad disagreed. In state parliament yesterday one politician arguing with another stated it was unfortunate that; “I can’t take you outside and beat you to death.” On…

Back to Kindness

A little while ago I wrote an article called “Practice Random Acts of Kindness Be Buggered!” where I argued that making a conscious choice to be Kind to each other would see an increase in positive emotional/mental health. To quote from that: “If Kindness…and yes I intentionally give it a capital to indicate its importance…if…

My God; Stop Closing Their Minds!

“I don’t believe in God Lees” My god-son, seven years of age, announced this as I gave him a hug hallo. I asked him why. In summary, his religious teacher at school had dished out the dogma of ‘you’re a sinner and god loves you so he sent his one and only son to suffer…

‘Practice Random Acts of Kindness’ Be Buggered!

And I challenge each reader, particularly my fellow Aussies given the comfort we live in, to implement Kindness in your world. For kindness is a conscious act.

But first we’d better define what kindness means and what it absolutely does not mean. I think sometimes people shy from the word because of some misconceptions.
